New Jersey residents who are contemplating or going through a divorce situation can be intimidated by the complex process. A person may find that asking the right questions can help ease their anxiety and help them feel more prepared for what is to come.
According to a recent article, there are several questions a person should ask and have answered before getting started with a divorce:
- What are the anticipated costs? – Divorce can be expensive and it is important to work out what the fees may be and anticipate where the funds to pay these fees will come from.
- What is the exposure for spousal and child support? – Spousal and child support can be one of the main issues in a divorce. Knowing how this support is determined can be helpful.
- Determination of visitation and child custody. – Knowing how visitation and child custody works and what the court considers before making these decisions is important for parents in anticipating what may happen.
- What information is necessary to proceed? – Know what is needed to move forward with the divorce proceedings. Financial documentation, including bank statements, credit card statements, retirement account information and tax returns are normally required.
Divorce proceedings can be complicated for many couples due to the variety of issues that need to be resolved before a divorce can be finalized in New Jersey. Knowing the right questions to ask to start the divorce proceedings can be helpful for individuals in anticipating what is necessary to proceed.
