Bus accident in Washington Township involves driver

Posted May 1, 2014

On behalf of Morris, Downing & Sherred, LLP posted in Child Injury on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Parents with school-age children entrust bus drivers and schools with a responsibility to be safe and take care of their kids. A bus driver who is negligent in his or her duties may assume responsibility if a child is hurt in an accident. A significant injury to a child is a serious issue. New Jersey parents expect that a care provider or bus driver will behave in a reasonable manner. Carelessness can lead to a significant child injury.

A bus driver in Washington Township was involved in an accident with students on board. The driver of another vehicle was hurt. The accident occurred on Fries Mill and Hurffville Crosskey roads. The township police reported that four students were on the bus at the time of the accident. No students were hurt in the accident.

Even if there are no apparent injuries in an accident, symptoms can take place hours or even days later. Negligence on the part of a responsible party may lead to a serious injury from broken bones to concussions. A negligent driver is someone who should be held accountable for his or her actions. A school or bus company may have additional responsibility if there has been inadequate training or poor vehicle maintenance. A significant injury to a child can be very expensive. It’s important to receive compensation under New Jersey’s legal system.

While a child is traveling on a school trip, parents entrust them in the care of the school. Therefore, the school has a standard of care to provide for the students. An accident can take place at any moment, but a negligent accident is something that should not happen in New Jersey. Negligence can range from texting while driving to being impaired by drugs or alcohol.
