New Jersey residents who are following the presidential campaigns may be interested in learning that a staffer for Ben Carson was declared dead following a crash on Jan. 19. Three volunteers were also reportedly injured in the collision.
The accident reportedly occurred in Iowa on I-80 at around 9:45 a.m. The driver of the van that was transporting the staffer and campaign volunteers lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to make a lane change. This caused the van to go through the median, where it collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The three injured volunteers were taken to a nearby hospital where they were examined and released. The staffer died at a separate hospital as a result of his injuries. Carson reportedly suspended his campaign for the next day as a response to the fatal accident. The campaign resumed on Jan. 21.
Car accidents can have a major impact on a person’s life. In some cases, they may be at risk for becoming temporarily or permanently injured, experience financial difficulties if they cannot work and suffer memory loss and other cognitive problems. If the injured person was not responsible for causing the car accident, they may potentially have the ability to seek compensation for the damages. For example, they could recover the cost of their medical bills and for lost income.
Usually, these cases are settled out of court. However, if the insurance company refuses to settle or offers less than what is needed to fully cover the costs, an attorney may attempt to negotiate. If this fails, the case may be taken to court with the evidence that shows how the injured person was physically, emotionally and financially impacted.
