Can a parenting coordinator help your divorce?

May 15, 2014 Morris, Downing, Sherred LLP

On behalf of Morris, Downing & Sherred, LLP posted in Child Custody on Thursday, May 15, 2014.

Couples who are going through a divorce in New Jersey know that many conflicts arise during the procedure. If children are involved, the divorce can easily become high-conflict and child custodyarrangements can be emotional.

Parents who are going through a divorce want to protect their children from the conflict that is sure to arise regarding child custody. Parents always want the best for their kids but sometimes the issues with their ex-spouses can cloud their judgment. Parenting is a very difficult job and both spouses have their opinions on how to do it with their kids. During a divorce, a child custody dispute can easily happen. When parents cannot agree on custody arrangements, a parenting coordinator can help these parents through their disagreements. The parenting coordinator’s role is to guide the parents to overcome the issues they have regarding custody arrangements. They don’t work for either parent and their job is to make sure the custody arrangements are for the best interest of the children. Parenting coordinators are often a source of reason in disputed custody arrangements.

New Jersey residents who are going through a divorce have many emotional concerns to work out. Children are usually a contested issue and the disagreements can be serious. A legal professional skilled in family law can help their client work through these disagreements. They can help their client determine what would be in their children’s best interest. They can help establish visitation plans, child support, or even sole custody if needed.

Children whose parents are going through a divorce in New Jersey can often feel forgotten. Adults can sometimes get caught up in their emotions and forget that their children should come first. Anything that can help work through these disagreements, like a parenting coordinator, can be of value in a disputed custody.
