Vehicle drives into New Jersey eatery

Posted Mar 11, 2015

On behalf of Morris, Downing & Sherred, LLP posted in Motor Vehicle Accidents on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.

A vehicle driven by a 71-year-old woman crashed through the storefront of the Cluck-U-Chicken eatery in Red Bank just before noon on March 3. The vehicle struck and injured a patron standing inside the restaurant as well as an employee. The car accident also caused major physical damage to the business, destroying computer equipment and refrigerators, forcing store to close.

The injured customer, a 37-year-old man from New York, had been standing at the counter with an employee when the car accident occurred. The employee sustained a minor injury to the hand while the customer was hit directly by the vehicle and pinned beneath the granite countertop. The countertop had to be lifted by Cluck-U-Chicken employees. Reports state that he sustained a leg injury. Both of the injured individuals refused medical treatment.

This is the third time a crash like this has occurred at the Red Bank Cluck-U-Chicken. The other accidents caused minor damage, but the restaurant was able to reopen within 48 hours. This time, the damage was the worst. By 1:15 p.m., the car was removed, leaving debris scattered around the area while workers loaded damaged equipment into a truck. There have been no summons issued.

Drivers who cause auto accidents and personal injuries such as in this case may be found negligent. Often, these types of accidents are the result of texting and driving or other distractions. A lawyer might be able to help car accident victims determine if compensation for the medical costs and pain and suffering may be possible. A victim might also receive funds that cover lost wages if they were unable to work while recovering from the accident.
