Car accident on New Jersey road hospitalizes one

Posted Apr 1, 2013

On behalf of Morris, Downing & Sherred, LLP posted in Car Accidents on Monday, April 1, 2013.

An accident involving multiple vehicles on a New Jersey boulevard recently sent one person to the hospital and resulted in two cars being significantly damaged. The accident occurred near an intersection during early evening hours.

Like many car accidents that happen on busy roads, this collision involved more than two vehicles. As one driver approached the intersection, he rear-ended a second car that was stopped in front of him. The force of the impact pushed the second car into the third car in front of it, which was stopped and waiting to turn left.

The car of the driver who started the chain reaction collision and the second car both had to be removed from the road by a tow truck. Unfortunately, personnel had to transport the driver of the second car to a nearby hospital. While this woman’s injuries were described as “not life-threatening”, it was not clear whether she had sustained a serious injury. Police issued the driver who initially hit the second car a citation for careless driving.

A distracted driver can do a lot of damage on a busy road during the evening commute when there is high traffic flow that may periodically cause a slowdown or a long line of stopped cars. Traffic backups happen frequently on busy roads and often happen unexpectedly. A driver must anticipate an upcoming bottleneck by looking down the road and slowing down accordingly. Not doing so can lead to rear-end collisions and even chain reaction pileups that involve several vehicles.

Victims of a rear-end collision can suffer serious and permanent injuries, particularly to their neck and spine. Compensation may be available for these victims so that they can cover their necessary medical treatments and other losses.
