A spinal injury is an extremely difficult injury from which to recuperate. It can have long-term effects on one’s entire body as rehabilitation teaches a whole new way of movement. The injury can limit mobility and lead to decreased muscle flexibility. Those suffering from a spinal cord injury may experience fatigue, poor coordination and tingling in the extremities. Fortunately, in New Jersey there are some financial options for a spinal injury that originated at work.
The World Health Organization estimates that as many as 500,000 people suffer a spinal cord injury every year. The organization says that many people who suffer those types of injuries are expected to die earlier, especially in the third world. In New Jersey, there is proper access to medical treatment, but the cost of the treatment can be very expensive. Most of the accidents resulting in spinal cord injuries come from vehicle crashes, falls and violence, all of which can occur on the job or outside of work.
If one does suffer a spinal cord injury at work, compensation can help pay for medical expenses. A work injury may make a worker eligible for insurance reimbursements or workers’ compensation. The benefits differ from state to state, but anyone who is injured is entitled to reasonable care to relieve or cure the effects of the injury. If a person is unable recover from the injury, that person may be eligible for permanent disability.
A workplace injury involving the spinal cord is a very tough injury. Often times, hurt workers can receive compensation for their time away from work. Financial reimbursement may come from a third party insurer or from a company’s workers’ compensation. Proper medical treatment and rehab is the first priority when any worker is injured on the job.
